Honor Her

As her postpartum doula, my first goal is to provide the support catered to the moms' individual needs. Through an initial consultation, a relationship of trust and understanding develops before I enter the home. During each visit, I provide a listening ear when needed, resources for any difficulties, and encouragement for her to finally have a moment to rest. It is through my honoring of the new mother that I provide gentle encouragement for her to remember her journey to recovery.

Nurture Her

Who will nurture the new mother while she nurtures her baby? The elders in Morocco teach that the new mother is vulnerable after birth and needs much love, support, care, and warmth. The traditional Moroccan Hamam Bath is a must-have for all new mothers to help them heal and bring warmth to the body.

The Hamam Bath is a steam bath where the new mother is washed from head to toe, using natural Moroccan soaps, clays, and herbs. She may also choose womb steaming with healing herbs at the end of the hamam. Throughout her three sessions, a massaging glove exfoliates the skin, her recovering body benefits from the full-body massage, and she experiences a spa-like experience in her own home.

Close Her

Closing the Bones is an ancient practice native to Morocco. The people of Morocco have done this for new mothers and soldiers returning from war for generations. They believe that the practice is a sacred ritual and hold it in high regard.

The new mother is "swaddled" or "closed" using a traditional Moroccan cloth worn by women in Morocco. All parts of the body are closed, aiming to aid the bones, muscles, and organs to return to the pre-pregnancy state. Finally, I use the Kouriza cloth to bind her belly and promote restoration.

Apart from healing the new mother physically, the closing helps to conclude the pregnancy and birth phase, providing a refreshing emotional and mental experience.

Nourish Her

Feeding the new mother wholesome food is one of the first steps to recovery. I provide Traditional Moroccan meals for the mother in her home that are nourishing for the mind, body, and soul. The food is warm, hearty, and organic. The ingredients selected have natural healing properties, including fenugreek, ginger, and warm broths. Having flavorful and delicious food available for the new mother and her family helps to relieve the burden of cooking and provide more time and energy for the new mom to rest. - Coming Soon

Celebrate Her

The women in Morocco understand the importance of relationship and community support in healing. The celebration of a new mother doesn't stop after the baby is born. The new mother feels loved throughout her 40-day postpartum period.

I continue this tradition by throwing a Celebration Party for The Nafsa. When a new mom is ready to open her home, she invites over a small group of close friends or loved ones. During this time, I serve the close-knit group a meal, dessert, and fresh tea. The women are encouraged to laugh, give advice, and celebrate not only the birth of the baby but the journey of the new mother. - Coming April 2020

Thank you Christina! What an amazing nap I just had. I feel so relaxed, I couldn’t stay awake even if I tried. Thank you for helping me feel refreshed.

Dear Mama,

Have you imagined what life would be like as a brand new mom? Maybe you dream of a peaceful home with a whimsical nursery. Or perhaps you focus your attention on preparing for labor or researching newborn sleep methods.

Of all of the planning, daydreaming and worrying about the baby, most expecting mamas don't consider their health and healing after the baby arrives. Birthing a baby is a life-changing experience that impacts a woman holistically. She is never the same. Her physical body, emotions, and mental health are all affected.

In 2014, I was this new mother…
